Small Wonders

Small Wonders

Small Wonders is a short illustrated comic I created as part of a design course, following a tiny flower as she steps outside her yard and discovers the world is a lot bigger and more wonderful than she expected. The visual style is built around paper cut art with flat shapes, clean silhouettes, and depth created through shadows and layering rather than shading. The goal was to make something that felt genuinely handcrafted, without a single piece of actual paper involved.

I built each element as its own vector shape, basically treating the file the way you'd treat a stack of cut paper, with layers you can lift and rearrange. The comic was then laid out with a panel grid designed to give the story room to breathe. The palette shifts from scene to scene as Daisy's world opens up, but always stays rooted in the warm, layered feel of pigmented paper.

Built in Adobe Illustrator.
