Overview

The Challenge

Small Wonders: Where Daisy Went follows Daisy, a tiny flower who leaves the safety of her yard and discovers the world is far bigger, and far more wonderful, than she ever imagined.. I wrote, illustrated and laid out the comic, from the cover through every interior page.

I wanted the comic to feel handmade, like something cut from paper and layered by hand, without using any physical paper at all. The challenge was to build that tactile, crafted look entirely in Illustrator, while keeping the pages clean and easy to follow as a story.

The Technique

Every element in Small Wonders is built as its own vector shape, so each file works like a stack of cut paper, with layers that can be lifted, shifted and rearranged. Instead of shading, depth comes from shadows and overlapping layers, giving each scene a soft, dimensional feel. Flat shapes and clean silhouettes keep everything readable at a glance.
